As part of International Women’s Day 2026, Dove House Women’s Group launched their ‘Dove Tales’ – a collection of powerful short personal stories with the Mayor, Ruairi McHugh on Monday last in the Bogside.

Written by women who have been engaging with the Dove House services and under the tutelage of former Derry Journal editor Pat McArt, the stories reflect resilience, growth, lived experience and strength. Alongside Monday’s story exhibition, Dove House also unveiled a billboard at Free Derry Corner as part of our wider awareness work within the group.

Monday’s launch, with an almost-gale force wind blowing, saw a relaxed, picnic-style atmosphere, with light refreshments, tea, sandwiches, and a coffee cart to celebrate the launch.

Speaking at the event, Eileen Allen, a contributor and also chair of the DHCT, welcomed the Mayor, course facilitator Pat McArt, participants, families and representatives from a number of local organisations and charities. She also paid tribute to the funders – The Executive Office, T-Buc, Urban Villages and Meenan Square Developments for their continued support.

Lending his support, the city and district’s Mayor, Ruairi McHugh praised the women for their work.

‘It is indeed great to see such high-quality work on display and what a way to start International Women’s Week with the women of the Bogside. Well done to all!’

DHCT manager, Jayne Quigg said she was delighted with the turnout to support the ladies’ fantastic work.

‘Despite the inclement weather, we were delighted to see so many come along and show their support on Monday. Celebrating the women of our community, celebrating their voices and marking International Women’s Day in a meaningful way – that’s what this programme was all about.

‘It was also great to see representatives from DHCT, Neighbourhood Management Team, Creggan Neighbourhood Partnership, Hive Cancer Support, the Gasyard Centre, OLT and Feile Derry showing continued support.’
