Planning approval granted for 33 new homes in Claudy
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee has given the green light for the construction of 33 new residential units on vacant lands fronting Main Street in the village of Claudy.
The approved scheme includes 16 two storey houses, 16 own door apartments, and one wheelchair accessible bungalow, along with landscaping, open amenity space, and associated site works. The site is bordered by the existing Braefield, Creggmount, and Barr Cregg housing developments. Councillors unanimously backed the proposal.
John Boyle, Chair of the Planning Committee, welcomed the decision at the monthly meeting of the committee in the Guildhall, stating: “This is an important and much needed development for Claudy.
"The provision of high quality homes, including accessible housing, will play a valuable role in addressing local housing need and supporting the continued growth and prosperity of the village.
“While there were some objections raised in relation to this project, a number of amendments to the proposed development were submitted by the applicant during the processing of the applications and conditions will also be attached to the decision notice which I am satisfied will address concerns.
