Bail refused for Derry man charged with burglary and criminal damage

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with burglary and criminal damage.

Shane Kavanagh (30) of Waterloo Place in Derry was charged with, on March 13, burglary and theft of a TV, cigarettes and a mobile phone.

Police responded to a report from Kavanagh's sister that he had entered her campervan and stolen the items, including an iPhone 15 valued at £400.

The phone has not been found and the TV was said to be damaged beyond repair.

Police objected to bail as they believe Kavanagh is at clear risk of reoffending and had been bailed for similar offences in December last year.

Defence Barrister Michael Donaghey said that Kavanagh is subject to the presumption of innocence and added that Kavanagh denies having been in the campervan at all.

Bail was refused and he will appear again on March 25.
