Every year we lose more of the personal connection to the Second World War in Northern Ireland as it passes out of living memory.
Oral history is a powerful resource to capture these memories and gain a glimpse into what life was like in wartime South Derry and beyond, from those who lived through it.
At Ballinascreen Historical Society’s next meeting (Tuesday, April 14) Michael Burns will share some personal recollections of those who experienced Wartime life; from the Blitz, Rationing, American presence here to the celebrations for Victory.
Michael is Research Officer at the Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum in Belfast and he will talk about the Museum’s Oral History Collection.
In addition, Michael is currently Vice-Chair of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies and a committee member of Comber Historical Society.
