The woman was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries. She was pronounced deceased yesterday evening.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, has officially launched an innovative new project that aims to bring art into local communities.
The Art On Your Doorstep project is led by the National Gallery working in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council, and is now officially underway across the council area.
Yesterday Mayor McHugh attended a special launch event in the Tower Museum where he encouraged people to look out for the artworks in a variety of locations.
“We are delighted to see the Art On Your Doorstep trail now live across our council area,” he declared.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to experience world-class art in the heart of our own communities. I would encourage everyone to keep an eye out for these beautiful installations, take time to enjoy them, and discover more about the incredible collection of the National Gallery. It’s a wonderful example of how collaboration can bring culture and creativity directly to people’s doorsteps.”

Eighteen life-size reproductions of paintings from the Gallery’s renowned collection can be spotted in outdoor public spaces across six locations in the district. The Council’s Museum team has curated the diverse selection of artworks, featuring much-loved masterpieces by artists including Renoir and Van Gogh, alongside paintings exploring themes of nature, food and celebration.
Each artwork is presented within a life-size reproduction of its original frame, allowing viewers to get up close and appreciate the details that make each painting unique.
Members of the public are invited to follow the art trail and scan the QR codes displayed beside each painting to uncover fascinating insights into the artworks and the artists who created them. The QR codes also provide access to a free interactive mobile game developed with children to encourage younger audiences to engage with art in a fun and imaginative way.
The six sites on the art trail are the Tower Museum, Acorn Farm, St Columb’s Park House, NI Libraries Strabane, The Diamond in Castlederg and alongside Newtownstewart Castle.
Art On Your Doorstep will run until the end of September 2026.
