Derry man remanded after immediately breaching bail conditions

A man who was released on bail on Monday has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates' Court today. 
Darren Dixon (29) of Carlton Court in Derry appeared charged with resisting police and criminal damage to a body worn camera on March 31.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail. 
He said that Dixon had been released on Monday but had never gone to his address nor had a tag fitted and so was in breach of his bail immediately. 
The court heard that police attended an incident in the Ballymagroarty area and Dixon matched the description of one of these involved.
When he was stopped police noticed the smell of alcohol on him which was another breach of his bail. 
The court heard Dixon also refused to give a sample of breath and when placed in a police vehicle he was able to make off due to a fault in the door.
Police pursued him and took him to the ground and in the course of the incident a body worn camera was damaged. 
Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending and the officer said Dixon had breached bail immediately on being released.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the defendant had lost his address and asked for bail to an address approved by police. 
She added that alcohol was an issue for this defendant. 
Bail was refused and Dixon was remanded in custody to appear again on April 30.
