Participants who recently completed the Triax Community Leadership Programme.
The Triax area of Derry has marked a significant milestone with the official completion of the Triax Community Leadership Programme.
Participants recently gathered to celebrate the culmination of what has been a transformative community development journey for the area.
Funded by the Executive Office (TEO), this initiative successfully equipped a group of community professionals with the necessary tools, networks and vision to promote long-term social and economic change in the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan, Fountain and Bishop Street areas.
Over the past six months, staff from a variety of community organisations have engaged with a rigorous curriculum designed to strengthen local governance and strategic impact. The programme featured expert-led workshops and guest speakers, as well as regional and international study visits.
First Minister Michelle O’Neill said: “This Programme, supported by The Executive Office, is making a real difference across Derry by giving participants the confidence, skills and connections to lead change in their own communities.
“What’s especially encouraging is how it has brought people from different areas together to learn from each other and build lasting relationships. That kind of collaboration is essential for creating inclusive, resilient communities and opening up new opportunities for the future. Huge credit to everyone involved, and particularly to the participants for their commitment and leadership.”
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said: “I am delighted The Executive Office has been able to support the Triax Community Leadership Programme through the Urban Villages Initiative. By investing in local talent and empowering young people to take on leadership roles, we are helping to secure the foundations for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
“I want to congratulate all the participants on their fantastic achievement and thank everyone who has been involved in developing and delivering this important programme, your dedication and commitment are helping create a positive future for everyone.”
Ciaran O’Donnell, spokesperson for Meenan Square Developments, the lead partner, added: "This programme was born out of a necessity to future-proof our community sector. Seeing the growth in confidence and the strengthening of cross-community ties has been deeply inspiring. The knowledge gained during the study visit to Liverpool, in particular, has already sparked new ideas for local projects that we are eager to implement."
Brian O’Neill, Director of Development & Enterprise at Enterprise North West, one of the delivery partners, stated: "It has been a real privilege to facilitate this journey. The dedication shown by the participants in balancing their vital daily work with this intensive training is commendable. These leaders aren't just managing organisations; they're designing the future of their neighbourhoods."
Completing this programme marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Triax area. Armed with enhanced advocacy and management skills, the graduates are now better placed to attract investment, address complex social issues and encourage collaboration.
