Liam Grant celebrates after securing his third ISKA Irish Open title in Waterford alongside Mark Clifford and Brendan Daly.

Liam Grant celebrated a defining moment in his young kickboxing career after securing his third ISKA Irish Open title in Waterford last weekend. The 17-year-old’s victory marks a rare and historic achievement, as he has now claimed national titles across three different weight categories.

Fighting out of the Strike Martial Arts Academy in Derry, Grant competed in the 15-17 years (65-70kg) division. Over the course of two clinical performances on the day, the Buncrana native demonstrated the elite skill and composure that has become his trademark since he began the sport a decade ago at the age of seven.

Grant, who was named the Martial Arts winner at the 2025 Donegal Sports Star Awards, is the reigning ISKA European Champion and a 2024 World Championship bronze medallist.

Grant has proven himself on the biggest stages internationally as well as nationally. His performances have consistently demonstrated high-level skill, composure, and maturity beyond his years, earning him growing recognition within the kickboxing community.

Each step in his journey has reflected not only natural talent but also commitment and ambition, with Grant continuing to push himself against top-level opposition across multiple weight divisions. His ability to adapt and succeed in different categories further highlights his versatility as a fighter.

Grant has now officially qualified for the ISKA World Championships, which will be held in Madrid, Spain, this November. Representing Team Ireland, his singular goal is to upgrade his previous bronze to World Gold.

Before the world stage beckons, Grant will headline a major club home show at the Everglades Hotel in Derry on May 23. He is scheduled to fight for a prestigious Four Nations title, bringing elite-level kickboxing back to his local supporters.

Standing across from him is Guywin Dawkins, a standout talent from Mick Crossland Combat Academy. A consistent presence at the top of the cadet scene in England, Guywin travels with intent ready to make a statement and take the title home.

Grant’s continued success is supported by the club coaches and team at Strike Martial Arts Academy for their constant support, coaching, and belief in his development, coaches and corner team of Mark, Brendy and Emma for the support guidance on the day.

He also extended his gratitude to his local sponsors: Harmony Acupuncture, Keegan Hegarty PT, C&S Injury Clinic and Remedial Massage, D&T Competition, and Doherty Roe Fuels.
