Derry woman fined over unpaid fuel bill

A woman who admitted being the passenger in a car that drove off after taking £20 of diesel has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today. 

Michelle Gallagher (35) of Beraghvale in Derry admitted the offence that occurred on November 22 2023.

The court heard police received a report of a vehicle taking £20.07 of diesel and making off without paying.

CCTV was reviewed and Gallagher was identified as the last registered owner of the vehicle.

When she was interviewed she accepted she was the passenger but said she couldn't identify the driver.

When asked about the theft she said she had not 'knowingly' committed the offence.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the theft was of. 'modest value'.

Gallagher was fined £75 and ordered to pay £20.97 in compensation.
