Man remanded in custody at Derry Court on child cruelty charges

A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court on child cruelty charges.

The man who cannot be identified in order to protect the identity of the child was charged with engaging in a course of conduct that would cause 'alarm or distress' on dates between November 1 2025 and April 19 2026.

He was also charged with two counts of assaulting a person on a date between December 31 2025 and February 1 2026, and a charge of child cruelty over a similar period.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges. 

Defence counsel Grainne McAnaney said that there would be no bail application at th8s stage as the accused had no address.

The man was remanded in custody to appear again on May 14.
