A wound was observed on her head and she had lost 'a large amount of blood.'

Initially police were told that the defendant had given her 'a hiding p' but she then changed her story that it was someone else.

Toner himself had wounds to his face, a broken tooth and a broken hand.

A witness said that he had heard screaming from the address and when the door was opened he saw Toner strike the woman with a hammer.

Toner was then said to have locked himself in a bedroom and injured himself.

The court heard that Toner was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital and while there became abusive 'swearing and shouting' before being placed in a cell van where he spat.

Later while in custody Toner was allegedly seen 'fidgeting' and a quantity of drugs was found.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay remanded Toner in custody to appear again next month.
