Tierney welcomes extended bus service for Skeoge residents

SDLP councillor Brian Tierney has welcomed an extended bus service for Skeoge residents while roadworks are ongoing in the area.

The local bus service was initially cancelled while the improvement works were carried out.

Councillor Tierney, who represents the Ballyarnett ward, contacted Translink on behalf of local residents and they have now agreed to extend the Clon Elagh service to cover the Glenabbey area for the period of the road closure.

He said: “After the local bus route to the Skeoge area was cancelled due to roadworks and road closures in the area I was contacted by a number of concerned local residents who rely on this daily service to get them to work, school, into town and everything in between.

“After raising their concerns with Translink I’m delighted to say that they have agreed to extend the Clon Elagh service to cover Glenabbey for the remainder of the road closure. This is a great result for local residents who were being unfairly impacted by the loss of this vital service.

“I’d like to thank Translink for all their hard work on this, they responded quickly, realised the issue and immediately went to work and addressed it.

“I’m delighted that by working together we were able to secure this for the local community and I know it will be appreciated by everyone who relies on this service.”

A Translink spokesperson added: “Translink has worked to find a short term solution to this issue affecting customers in the Skeoge area, and we can confirm that Foyle Metro 11a services will be temporarily extended from Clon Enagh to Glenabbey for the duration of the works period with effect from March 16.

“It is hoped that this will address the concerns of residents in the Glenabbey area during the works period.”
