Clarification

Old Thornhill site is a 'death trap', says local councillor, amid fears young people hanging around the site are putting their lives at risk

Some of the derelict buildings on the former Thornhill site.

In an article published on Thursday, March 17 last, headed 'Culmore parish to lose only church with closure of Thornhill chapel' it was stated 'The school moved to new location in 2002 and the Sisters of Mercy subsequently sold a large part of the site to a developer who is planning to build a retirement village on the land.'

We have been asked to point out this was incorrect and the Order had not previously sold land linked to or associated with the Thornhill site at any time.

A spokesperson for the Sisters of Mercy said the statement was 'without basis in regard to the Mercy Sisters and the sale of lands.'
