Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown, has condemned the attempted murder of two PSNI officers on patrol in Strabane last night.

He said: "I wholeheartedly condemn last night’s reckless attack on a PSNI vehicle in Strabane.

"The incident has risked the lives of police officers going about their duties, as well as the lives of local residents, and caused much distress in the local community.

"Our communities are already facing into a very worrying winter with soaring prices and great uncertainty. This simply further frightens children, parents and older residents.

"I encourage everyone to play their part in removing violence from our society and showing that politics can deliver."
