Pupils at St Eithne's have been working towards the Green Flag award and have been working hard to be Eco Warriors.
They have applied for and been awarded the 'Live Here Love Here' Pollinator grant.
They currently have the grounds men working on their outdoor classroom, rejuvenating their school pond and creating a wildflower meadow for our local pollinators.
Several of their classes have been involved in planting and harvesting their own vegetables.
They planted potatoes and carrots in the Spring term and harvested the potatoes in June and the carrots in September.
The children brought these home to cook with their families. Their Eco Club, led by Cathy, their retired school secretary, has planted onions and garlic to be harvested in the summer term.
In conjunction with their local residents, we planted flowers around our school, and these have been maintained and updated by their Eco Club.
The Eco Club has made bird feeders from recyclable materials and hung them around our school so that birds in the surrounding area will have lots to eat this winter.
We have litter pickers from the Key Stage 2 classes out every day at lunchtime picking up any litter surrounding our school and weighing it daily.
