NUJ declares solidarity with Radio Foyle journalists.

The Derry North West Ireland Branch of the National Union of Journalists has declared its solidarity with fellow-union members in BBC Radio Foyle and across the BBC in Northern Ireland.

It follow's Tuesday's announcement by the BBC NI it was axing BBC Radio Foyle's Breakfast Show and hourly news bulletins and making up to eight people redundant.

NUJ Derry North West Ireland Branch Secretary Anton McCabe said: "Members jobs are threatened because of wrong-headed government policies and lack of funding.

“We will work with members in Foyle and with the wider union in resisting the butchering of news,” McCabe said. “This is about more than our members' jobs. It is about a news service for the community.”
