Councillor Carr demands return of Derry courts from Coleraine

A man who is on bail on drug charges attended a PSNI Station to answer a breach of bail allegation with 13 Diazepam on his person Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

The man who has been granted anonymity on the drug charges appeared today for breaching his bail.

A police officer told the court that police called to the man's address on December 11and knocked on the door but with no response.

They continued to knock for a period and the court heard that there were dogs inside the property who could be heard barking.

The next day the man attended the PSNI Station and was searched and the tablets allegedly found on his person.

The police officer said 'he handed himself in with drugs on him.'

The court heard that this was the man's third breach of bail and the officer said he had been warned on the last occasion not to breach again.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the man was 'self medicating' due to pain he suffered from having broken both his arms.

He said that his client claimed he was at home when police called but had taken some of the Diazepam and was 'dead to the world'.

The man was granted bail to appear again next month.
