A date has been fixed for the commital proceedings involving a man charged with the murder of Katie Simpson in 2020 who was initially believed to be a suicide victim.

Jonathan Cresswell (34) of Briar Hill Gardens in Greysteel faces a charge of murdering Kate Simpson on August 3 2020.

At today's hearing a prosecutor told the court that papers were now being compiled to facilitate the holding of a Preliminary Enquiry.

He said this was a 'complicated case' with various strands to it.

But the court was told that the prosecution was in a position to fix a date for the preliminary enquiry for the end of February.

Eoghan Devlin defence barrister asked would there be any objections to actually fixing the date today and was told there wasn't.

A date was set for February 23 for the holding of a preliminary enquiry and the case will be reviewed on January 25.
