Locals meet this Saturday to discuss their fears about the development of a giant wind farm in the Gweebarra Bay estuary area
Concerns about proposed wind farm developments in the Gweebarra Estuary area of west Donegal will be discussed at a public meeting to be held this coming Saturday night, January 7 in the Lettermacaward Hall at 8pm. The hall is adjacent to the Chapel.
A spokesperson for the Gweebarra Conservation Group said in the light of Donegal County Council's resolution being acknowledged by the Ministerial Directive the group and other environmental bodies are challenging Danish firm Ørsted to "cut their losses and do the right thing by declaring that they will not persist with their threatened planning application here".
Their statement added: "We do not consent to the commodification of the Ørsted, Gweebarra or the Rosses so so called green energy companies can claim carbon credits to offset their digging. It's gambling on the wind. They know the cost of everything and the value of nothing."
