Novice driver detected at 174km/h in Donegal

Weather conditions were 'very poor' when the motorist was caught, Gardai say

A novice driver in Donegal was caught driving at 174km/h over the weekend.

Gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit arrested the novice driver on Sunday night.

Officers detected the motorist travelling at a speed of 174km/h in an area governed by a 100km/h speed limit on the N13.

“Weather conditions were very poor at the time with heavy rain and strong winds,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The driver was charged to appear in Court.

The Garda spokesperson added: “Slow down. Save lives.”
