The takeover of Ulster Bank’s Donegal Town branch by Permanent TSB is about to come into effect.

Almost two years since the announcement that Ulster Bank would be withdrawing from the Irish market, the Donegal Town branch will cease trading as Ulster Bank on Friday. It will reopen in a fortnight's time as Permanent TSB.

Following an initial period of uncertainty, news of Permanent TSB’s purchase of four Donegal branches was very welcome. There has been much preparation of the premises in recent months, with the new branding now in place.

Meanwhile, fears that the EBS in Donegal Town was set to close have been allayed.

A spokesperson for parent company AIB said: “Last summer we indicated that there wouldn’t be any changes to the AIB Group branch network (including EBS).

“This remains the case, and we’re pleased that EBS Donegal town will remain open.”
