Councillor Marie Therese Gallagher said there is a 'massive issue in Burtonport' with the plant Japanese Knotweed and Donegal County Council need to come up with a solution.

The plant is an aggressive species that can grow up to 10cm a day. It is recognised as one of the most invasive species in Ireland.

"There is a massive issue [with the plant] in Burtonport and I think this council needs to come up with solution," she said.

The councillor said the plant can hinder and stop the building of private houses and social housing.
