The force of the sea and its impact on the Donegal coast has been very much demonstrated in recent times.
High winds at the weekend led to powerful waves hammering parts of our coast.
At Creevy Pier, heavy concrete barriers which had been placed at the pier were moved by the sheer force of the waves. They in turn damaged the railings at the pier steps.
Cathaoirleach of Donegal MD, Cllr Niamh Kennedy (Ind) raised the matter at the January meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal on Tuesday.
She also mentioned the pier at Cassan Sound on the St John’s Point peninsula.
This was also raised by Cllr Noel Jordan (SF), who said it had been brought to his attention that there was erosion at the back of the pier. The councillor said he had seen photographs of the damage.
The councillors asked Roads Department officer, Mark Sweeney if he could follow the matter up in conjunction with the Marine section of Donegal County Council.
Mr Sweeney said he was aware of the damage to Creevy Pier and would follow it up.
Donegal County Council have certainly been on the ball, with repairs having already been made to Creevy Pier.
