Met Eireann has issued a further status yellow warning for low temperatures and ice, with more wintry showers also forecast.

The nationwide ice warning remains in effect until noon on Tuesday.

According to Met Eireann: “Icy stretches leading to hazardous travelling conditions, especially on untreated roads and paths.

“Wintry showers in the north west and south west. Accumulations possible, especially in mountainous areas, leading to disruption.

Snow began falling in Donegal on Sunday, lying on higher ground and causing disruption to traffic in areas such as Meenaroy where a number of vehicles ran into difficulty.

Back roads will inevitably be particularly treacherous. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to assume that no road is ice free.
