The road at Lower Ard O'Donnell
There are calls for the urgent erection of traffic calming measures in a built-up area of Letterkenny that has become 'like a racecourse'.
At the January meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Councillor Kevin Bradley moved a motion in relation to the road at Lower Ard O'Donnell.
The Independent Councillor has asked that the council 'erect speed ramps or traffic calming measure at Lower Ard O Donnell as a matter of urgency'.
“There has been a fantastic job done in the areas around the Cathedral and St Eunan's College,” Councillor Bradley told the meeting.
“That road from the Cathedral over Lower Ard O'Donnell is like a racecourse to the end of the road. It needs some kind of calming measures.
“It is a matter of urgency. There are a lot of children using that road when walking to school and you have people crossing to Speers Lane and McClure's Terrace.”
The motion was seconded by Councillor Donal 'Mandy' Kelly.
“That is a built-up area and, most definitely, it does need safety measures,” Councillor Kelly said.
In response, Donegal County Council said: “The Roads Team will carry out a safety assessment to establish the issues and identify possible solutions. This will include
an assessment of the speeds at this location.”
