The late and much loved Ronan Roddy
"Gentle, very quietly spoken, and a thorough gentleman," are just some of the tributes being paid today following the sad sudden passing of Stranorlar man, Ronan Roddy who passed away following a short illness at the Donegal Hospice in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Perhaps best known as an ever-present match steward at Finn Park, the late Mr Roddy also worked at the popular Mac's Mace outlet at High Road, Letterkenny.
"He touched the lives of so many people. Everyone is shocked and saddened by the news. He was an integral member of the Finn Harps family and known to everyone who had anything to do with the club over the past 20 years or more. He was also well known to visiting teams, players, officials and supporters," said club spokesman, Aidan Campbell.
He said the late Mr Roddy had the knack of making everyone feel good.
"He just had that gift as well as being a gentle, quiet-spoken gentleman who enjoyed the craic but took his role here very seriously too," he added.
He is survived by his father Phil, mother Pauline, brother, Timothy, sister Louise, and predeceased by the late Adeen; sister-in-law Sally-Ann, nieces Nadine, Freya, and Isla, extended family and friends.
His remains are reposing at McCool’s Chapel of Rest, Ballybofey tomorrow, Thursday, January 19 from 6pm until rosary at 9pm, when his remains will be removed to the family home. The funeral leaves from there on Saturday, January 21 at 10.30am for Requiem Mass in the Church of Mary Immaculate Stranorlar at 11am. Interment afterward in Drumboe Cemetery. The Requiem Mass will be streamed live via the parish webcam at https://www.churchservices.tv/stranorlar
