Argos to close Letterkenny store later this year

The Argos store in Letterkenny is set to close

Argos, one of the largest retail employers in the country with around 400 people in over 30 outlets across Ireland looks set to announce the closure of its outlets in Ireland, including its store in Letterkenny.

Staff members were told this morning that the company is closing all stores and online activities in Ireland by June 24.

It is understood that some stores will close at the end of March or sooner if their leases expire prior to that date.

It is unclear how the Letterkenny store will fit into this proposed timetable.

Employees have been informed they will receive four weeks of redundancy pay along with the normal statutory two weeks, it is understood.

The Mandate Trade Union has expressed its disappointment at the company’s decision to pull out of the Irish market and says it will work with the company to get the best deal for staff.
