Roo and Bella.
The instincts of a Border Collie, Bella, helped to locate Roo, the lurcher missing from Letterknny for around ten days.
Adopted dog Roo went missing from her home, prompting a large search operation.
Bella, a sheepdog belonging to a member of the Donegal ISPCA, was drafted in.
“Bella is used to working with sheep and has no search and rescue training, but she amazed everyone by sniffing Roo out and crying to staff to alert them,” a spokesperson for the ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre said.
“Roo was hanging around the area where the trap was set but would not go in.
“With fresh paw prints visible, we knew she was circling back there at least, so we brought out Bella hoping she could steer the search party in the right direction.
“Little did we know how successful it would be when Roo popped out and followed Bella close enough to staff to secure her.”
The ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre said they were 'beyond relieved and delighted to locate Roo.
They thanked all those who aided in the search, including the dog wardens and Gardai in Letterkenny
The spokesperson said: “Roo is well, she has a few scuffs and scratches, she has lost a lot of weight, but that will be easily fixed.
“She is now fast asleep on a comfy bed with a full belly, dreaming of her adventures, no doubt.”
