Donegal Town native Peter Burke resumes his Countdown battle today after a fantastic fifth season in 2022. The 36-year-old could be on course to become a Countdown octochamp as he goes head-to-head today on Channel 4.

The son of Fergus and Brenda Burke, the family moved to live in Donegal Town a number of years ago following a tenure in Bruckless. Peter has lived in London since he was nineteen years of age.

Peter recalls watching Countdown after school with his mother Brenda and thinking that some day he may apply to be a contestant and that day came last year.

He said he enjoyed competing last year adding that each competition is different and presents different challenges.

Since his appearance on the popular show he has been contacted by many people he used to know.

"I have been contacted by people I haven't seen since school and they watched the show which is nice," he said.

Countdown host, Colin Murray, had his sights on Peter to become a champion of champions saying he spotted Peter's talents early on in the game.

Peter said: "It's been good. There is a really good atmosphere on the show and that is a big help - knowing that everyone there is very nice helps with nerves," he said.
