Eamon McGee has stepped down from his role as Clerk of the Course of the Donegal International Rally.
The Gweedore man vacates the COC post as organisers of the event announce changes to its structure.
McGee succeeded Danny Gormley as COC for the 2012 staging of the Donegal International Rally.
He had previously acted as chief marshal and a timing co-ordinator with the Donegal Motor Club.
A statement said: “Eamon is a legendary figure in Irish motorsport and a key organiser within Donegal Motor Club.
“He has wished the club all the best with the selection of a new Clerk of the Course and in the running of the new structure.”
Nominations for the position of Clerk of the Course are expected to be taken at the next meeting of Donegal Motor Club on 8th February next and further developments will be announced in due course.
Over the winter months, the management team carried out an intense review of the event.
The statement said: “The in depth review looked into the huge workload involved in staging the rally and the need to plan for the long term support of the personnel, equipment and resources required.
“The drive to better integrate the event with support from local businesses, the local community and local authorities is well under way, with significant progress already reported.”
From the 2023 event, to take place as usual in June, dedicated teams, operating with a central co-ordinator, will handle defined areas of the rally, ranging from such things as accommodation for marshals and competitors to the delivery of technical services and media support.
The new structure was adopted at a club meeting on January 9.
The Donegal International Rally is the only three-day event on the Irish Tarmac Rally calendar.
The event celebrated its 50th running in 2022, with Monaghan's Josh Moffett taking victory.
