The late Paul Duncan was a keen hurler, footballer and golfer
There is much sadness in Donegal Town following the death of local businessman Paul Duncan.
Mr Duncan of Ballydevitt Beg, Donegal Town, passed away on Wednesday following a period of illness.
A well known figure in the area, he ran the former Duncan’s Bakery in Donegal Town for many years, having taken over from his father. The bakery was a great employer in the area, with Duncan’s sliced pan a staple in homes across south Donegal. The company’s range of bread and other baked goods graced the shelves of many local shops.
In later years, Mr Duncan developed a multi-purpose building on the Diamond Town, housing businesses such as Specsavers and Verve, as well as offices and guest accommodation.
A keen sportsman, he played both hurling and football for Four Masters and was part of the panel that enjoyed success in the county football championship in 1982 and 1984.
After his playing days, Mr Duncan remained a committed member of the club and served for a time as Chairman.
He also enjoyed golf and was a member of Murvagh Golf Club.
Mr Duncan is survived by his wife Bridie, daughters Pamela and Carolyn, son Paul Gerard, brother Hugh and sisters Mary and Kayt.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
