Fans will get another chance to see Onóir

South Donegal group Onóir have sold out five gigs - such interest levels have not been seen since John Prine played in Letterkenny six years ago

Meet Onóir: Donegal quartet's first shows on stage sell out

South Donegal group Onóir

South Donegal sensation Onóir will take to the stage for a sixth show - after their first five gigs sold out in double-quick time.

Demand on such a level has not been seen in Donegal since the arrival of legendary American folk singer John Prine to Letterkenny in 2017.

After selling out three shows at the Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey (April 16, 22 and 23), tickets for their May 26 date in Letterkenny went on sale on Thursday evening and were gone in just over an hour.

Now, another date has been added with the Donegal quartet also to play at An Grianan on May 25. Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Wednesday. With demand already vastly outstripping supply, these can be expected to be snapped up swiftly.

"The interest in them is just phenomenal," Daithi Ramsay, the marketing manager of An Grianan Theatre told Donegal Live.

“The last time we saw demand like this was for John Prine.”

Tom McHugh from Inver, Frosses native Declan Gaughan, Mountcharles’ Dean James and Diarmaid McGee from Ballintra form the quartet that has tongues wagging.

The four musicians have never played together in public before, but their viral videos have seen interest soar.

During the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, the four men joined together and made a video at Murvagh beach, recording a version of The Auld Triangle. The video went viral and has 1.6 million views.

Tickets for the first show announced were gone within four hours. Their second show sold out in 34 minutes and it took only eight minutes for the full house signs to be posted for a third time.
