A three-foot hole on the side of the N14 is posing danger to road users.

The hole has emerged at Doorable, Manorcunningham, on the main Lifford-Letterkenny road.

Tarmac is breaking away from the grass verge and creating a danger for users.

The N14 is the main road into Letterkenny when coming from Dublin and is one of the busiest in Donegal.

Councillor Donal Coyle brought the issue before this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Lifford Municipal District.

“God forbid anything went into this,” Councillor Coyle said.

“It’s at the narrowest part of this road and is right on the edge of the yellow line. It’s about three-foot deep and if a cyclist went into it, they could actually be killed.

“When driving, if you meet any large vehicles and are veering tight, its extremely dangerous.”

Councillor Coyle urged Donegal County Council to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland regarding the condition of the road.

“I certainly wouldn’t be walking on that road,” Councillor Coyle said.

His calls were echoed by Councillor Gerry McMonagle.

While the Council said that TII have no works programmed at the location, David McIlwaine, a senior executive engineer for Donegal County Council, said he was made aware of the issue and temporary repairs will be carried out.
