Several motorists have reported broken windscreens due to loose chips on the road at Illistrin.
Councillor Michael McBride has asked that Donegal County Council carry out an audit on the road between Illistrin and Coolboy.
Councillor McBride told a meeting of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District that the road surface is breaking up badly and motorists are reporting broken windscreens.
“It is 12 or 13 years since that road was relaid and the wear and tear is starting to show,” he said.
“There has been a harsh enough winter with rain in November, ice in December and snow in January. The road was gritted a lot.
“On that section of road, there is a very heavy volume of traffic and cars all run close to each other.”
Councillor McBride suggested that the Council could remove the loose stone from the road and his motion was seconded by Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh.
The meeting also heard a motion for a roundabout or some form of traffic management at Illistrin National School.
Councillor Kevin Bradley impressed on the Council the importance of alleviating difficulties at ‘a dangerous junction’.
“There is a massive volume of traffic on that road,” said Councillor McBride in support of the motion. “I have always felt that a roundabout would be beneficial down there.”
