Donegal Town man Niall Timony stars in Proper Twelve's new commercial.
Donegal Town native Niall Timony steals the show in Conor McGregor's new Proper Number Twelve whiskey advert.
The commercial - which dropped online on Thursday - features Niall who also gets to deliver his very own line.
Speaking to DonegalLive Niall, who had previously never acted before, says a random course of events delivered the opportunity right into his lap.
“The production company behind it are Philadelphia based," he said. "I’ve a cousin over there and he’s friends with one of the producers in that same company. That individual had posted a sort of advert looking for Irish people to star in the video.
“So he obviously tagged me in it. He sent me a wee message as well basically describing just what they were looking for. I kinda fitted that bill so to speak! They were looking for a short video to be forwarded.
“I’m a rep for Coca Cola and after a very long drive back home one evening I realised I still needed to send this thing on. So very tired, very cranky and at a very late hour, I recorded a short video on the phone and sent it on.
“I thought nothing more about it until they got back in touch and said “we really like my look. I guess it was a random course of events that put me in place but it was great fun".
Niall explains that despite being extremely nervous, he knew the opportunity was simply too good to turn down. Having practised Jujitsu for years back home, and being an MMA fan, he turned up on set, at the Bushmills Whiskey distillery, not knowing really what to expect or if he'd even see the two-weight UFC champion.
“It was a week’s turnaround. These things can be shot seperately so I didn't even know if Conor would be there. But he arrived on set, was extremely professional and courteous to us all. He came up and introduced himself. His family were with him. We didn’t get too much information in regards to when it was going to be released.
“We were just told it would air in Canada and the US first. Of course, I stayed up to watch the Super Bowl thinking it might pop up somewhere there! But no, it didn’t. It was a great experience though.
“I wanted to have a wee bit of Donegal on me when I shot it. So I went into Hanna Hats in Donegal Town. So the cap I’m wearing in the advert is one of theirs!"
