Minister Charlie McConalogue (inset) announces a new garda station for Ramelton
A new premises has been obtained for Ramelton Garda Station.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Donegal TD, Charlie McConalogue, confirmed this afternoon that the Office of Public Works has confirmed to him that it has leased a premises at Castle Street but it will need renovation before it can be used as a garda station.
A design team is currently working on a design for the fit-out of the station. The OPW and An Garda Siochána will continue to work together to complete the design phase and to move to tender stage for the project this year.
Minister McConalogue said this is tremendous news for the people of Ramelton and surrounding areas.
"Policing is essential in Donegal and proper infrastructure for our gardaí is crucial for maintaining strong community policing in our rural communities.
"Senator Niall Blaney, Cllr Liam Blaney and I have been working with the OPW and my Government colleague Patrick O’Donovan TD, Minister with responsibility for the OPW, and the gardaí, for some time to make sure that a fit-for-purpose station is secured for Ramelton. I’m glad that this will be coming to fruition soon,” he said.
