O’Donnell’s bakery in Laghey has been awarded the Food Safety Assurance Accreditation by the Food Safety Professionals Association for their commitment to excellence in food safety and hygiene.
Since joining the SuperValu Food Academy, production in O’Donnell’s bakery has doubled creating 20 new jobs and supplying Supervalu supermarkets in Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo, Galway, Cavan and Monaghan and Northern Ireland. The bakery also exports its famous wheaten and soda breads to the USA and has taken on new contracts with retailers across the country.
Nineteen food facilities and businesses in Ireland across many sectors have been awarded the prestigious Food Safety Assurance Accreditation, meaning that the premises has undergone rigorous independent auditing against Irish Food Safety Standards, underpinned by legislation, and achieved excellence in hygiene.
The scheme is managed by the Food Safety Professionals Association, an organisation working to maintain and improve standards of food safety advice, training and education opportunities in the Irish food industry.
