A presentation is to be made at Derry City’s Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium to the family and friends of Private Seán Rooney, the Donegal soldier killed in Lebanon last December.
The presentation will be made by both clubs ahead of Derry City’s match with Dundalk tonight.
The 24-year-old was killed in an ambush while serving with the Irish contingent of the 121st Infantry Battalion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil).
Private Rooney was a native of Dundalk and had lived in Newtowncunningham for the last decade. A former student at St Eunan's College in Letterkenny, he served with the 27th Infantry Battalion in Dundalk. His funeral Mass was held in Dundalk and he was laid to rest in Newtowncunningham.
