Listeners to RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta are in for a major treat this coming Easter weekend as the station will broadcast two special programmes on Easter Monday and Tuesday, recorded at their 50-year celebratory concert in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair in February.
As space was restricted and many did not get the opportunity to attend so these programmes will certainly help bridge that gap.
In Ceiliúradh na nUltach, on Easter Monday at 11 am, and on Tuesday at the same time, listeners will get to hear what went on behind the scenes. There will be interviews with some of those in attendance, as well as performances from the night, and archive material from the station going back to 1972. Áine Ní Bhreisleáin will present the shows.
Contributors to Monday’s programme will include concert guests Maighréad Nic Seaghain, a former broadcaster with the station, Róisín Mhic Giolla Chearra, Donnchadh Mac Fhionnghaile, Bridie Bean Mhic Fhloinn, Marcas Ó Murchú agus Máire Colm.
Listeners will also hear performances from the concert from The Mooneys and Altan, Dónall Ó Ceallaigh, Connie Ó Gallchóir, Moya Brennan and family, and Clann Mhic Ruairí.
On Tuesday, interviews continue with Gene Eoghan Ó Curraighín, Caitlín Uí Chochlainn, Seán agus Máire Mac Seáin, Eoin Mac Gairbheith, Áine Ní Dhíoraí agus Ethna Joe Jack Mhic Fhionnghaile and performances from Diane Cannon, Bréag, the sean-nós ensemble (Lillis Ó Laoire, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde, Gearóidín Bhreathnach, Brian Danny Minny and Máire Ní Choilm), and Clann Mhic Ruairí.
You can tune in live at 11 am on Easter Monday, or listen back to the shows later at www.rte.ie/rnag
