It's definitely a junction with a difference and one that has been a constant irritant and daily source of misery for thousands of motorists travelling through the county.
Kilross junction is situated on the N13 between Stranorlar and Letterkenny so is well-used, particularly for anyone going to the county's biggest town.
However, it's also an area that has seen too many scary motoring incidents that have caused local councillor Patrick McGowan to demand radical action. Cllr McGowan welcomed the recent minor improvement works on the junction but added a roundabout is what is needed
He said a lot of drivers, as well as local residents, have been complaining for years that a minority of drivers overtook other drivers queued at Kilross using the hard shoulder by indicating they were going to Convoy instead they did a U-turn on the Convoy road and headed in the Stranorlar direction overtaking other drivers ahead of them in the queue.
Locals complained about their entrances being used by these queue jumpers sometimes in a dangerous manner.
Cllr McGowan said while welcoming recent minor measures, he said motorists and residents needed more.
“I still can’t understand why Transport Infrastructure Ireland won’t make a simple roundabout at Kilross. It would not cost much and would cut out unnecessary delays for drivers making long journeys to Sligo and all destinations south.
"I have never heard a reasonable explanation for anyone as to why this could not be done,” he said.
