The No Barriers Foundation, based in Letterkenny, has been named as Ireland’s Best Social Enterprise at the Irish Community and Council Awards.
No Barriers Foundation is a not for profit organisation that improves the physical and mental health of those with physical and intellectual disabilities in the north-west.
They offer one-to-one and group rehabilitation support for people after stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and other functional neurological disorders.
No Barriers Foundation is a fully inclusive health facility in the Mountain Top in Letterkenny. The facility is home to a rehabilitation gym with specialised equipment and highly skilled staff and also No Barriers Fitness, a community gym which is open to members of the public and features top class equipment and a skilled team. Profits from the gym go towards the cost of rehabilitation for individuals.
The IMMA awards recognise and celebrate communities and councils working together. They provide a great opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work done within our communities, to reward our unsung heroes and recognise the phenomenal contribution they’ve made to our lives.
“We were absolutely delighted to be voted best social Enterprise in Ireland at the LAMA awards,” Johnny Loughrey CEO of No Barriers Foundation said. “We have huge admiration for the work the other nominated charities are doing and look forward to hopefully collaborating with a few of these down the line.
“We have an amazing team and I am thankful the award can recognise the hard work and dedication the staff give to No Barriers each and every day they walk through the doors. We would also like to thank the clients who support No Barriers and trust us to work with them on their goals and aspirations to stay strong and healthy within the community.
“Rethink Ireland and IPB insurance have been instrumental in allowing No Barriers to grow over the last number of years. Their help and guidance have allowed us to scale and increase the support we can deliver to our community and stakeholders. We want to sincerely thank them for this and look forward to growing and collaborating more with them in the years to come.”
The awards took place in Clonmel, Co Tipperary last Saturday evening and were presented by LAMA (Local Authority Members Association) and IPB Insurance.
