Joanne Houston presents a cheque to the RDAI Raphoe
When the hunting fraternity of the area gathered in the depths of our cold, wet January to dance their blues away at their annual charity hunt ball, they did some admirable fundraising for local charities.
The Raphoe branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association of Ireland has long been a beneficiary of the Donegal Harriers love of a good night out, with the monies raised helping to fund the hugely therapeutic service they offer the young (and not so young).
Based in Greenacres Equestrian Centre in Convoy the branch enables its riders to benefit from interacting with the gentle and completely non-judgmental ponies, which offers huge psychological and physical benefits as well as acting as a badly needed social support group for the families and assistants.
Mark Adam's accepts a cheque on behalf of the Donegal Alzheimers Society, from Rosemary Fisher of the Donegal Harriers. The monies were raised at the Harriers charity hunt ball
Each year the organisers of the various Donegal Harrier meets have their names put in a hat for a draw to determine who gets to choose the second charity to benefit from the proceeds of the hunt ball.
This year it was Mark Adam’s name that was pulled from the hat and he opted to support the Alzheimers Society, in recognition of the great work they do in helping to support the many families affected by the condition.
