Man brought to court over weekend assault of woman in Ballybofey

A Ballybofey man has appeared in court on a series of charges arising out of an alleged incident at the weekend.

Gerard Crawford was brought before Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

The 38-year-old, whose address was given as Finn Farm, Cappry, Ballybofey, was charged with assaulting a woman and causing her harm at Finn Farm, Cappry, Ballybofey, on Sunday, May 7.

Crawford was also charged with producing in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person any article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a kitchen knife.

Crawford is charged with stealing property, a black iPhone 12, valued at €500, while he also faces two charges of criminal damage - to a bathroom door and the front driver’s door of a car.

Sergeant Gerard Dalton gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Crawford, who was represented by solicitor Ms Carrie Hegarty.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham granted bail on Crawford’s own bond of €500, nil cash, on condition that he not interfere with the alleged injured party or any witnesses; that he stay away from Finn Farm, Cappry, Ballybofey, that he provide a mobile number and be contactable to Gardai at all times; that he not commit any offense and be of good behavior; and that he sign on twice a week with the Gardai.

Crawford was remanded to appear again before Letterkenny District Court on July 10.
