Artists and crafters collective Local Hands is celebrating ten years in business and photographer Siobhan McGowan was on hand to capture a flavour of the festivities.
From humble beginnings as a group of five makers - Barry Britton, Barry Sweeny, Teresa Maguire, Aoife Britton and McGonigle Glass - set up in a vacant shop on Ballyshannon’s Main Street. They had practical support from the Ballyshannon Regeneration Group and a budget of just €200 from the then town council.
The name Local Hands was agreed, and has since become synonymous in south Donegal with skill and quality.
The shop currently hosts the work of 25 different people. Current members of the collective are Jim McIntyre, Paula Cooke, Barry Britton, Rita Nic Fhoinghaile, Francey Cassidy, Lisa Hughes, Rossa Byrne and Barry Sweeny.
They were joined by family, friends, customers and the local community as well as fantastic local musicians for their tenth birthday celebrations.
The sun shone and there was a fantastic atmosphere as people enjoyed classes, demonstrations, entertainment and food.
More information on the collective can be found at www.localhands.ie and on the Local Hands social media pages.
