Donegal looks set for the warmest weather of the year so far as we head into the bank holiday weekend.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-twenties by Thursday afternoon, with the sunshine lasting well into next week.
People are already flocking to the county’s many beaches, and bumper crowds are expected for the Bank Holiday weekend.
There are plenty of events taking place around the county.
In Ballyshannon, the four-day Rory Gallagher festival is expected to draw thousands of music fans to the town. With 30 acts on 15 stages over four days, there is sure to be a fabulous festival atmosphere. Booking details and updates can be found at www.rorygallagherfestival.com
In the west of the county, Donegal Sea Adventure is launching its brand new sea safari business at Burtonport Pier on Friday afternoon. More information can be found at donegalseaadventure.ie
There are a number of markets taking place around the county too, showcasing local food and crafts.
In Donegal Town, Market at the Mews takes place in the Millcourt Mews (behind Simple Simon’s) on Saturday. The food and craft market will run from 11am to 4pm, with live music by Nao Cannon from 12 noon until 2pm.
The Ardara Artisan Market will also take place on Saturday, running from 11am to 3pm in the main town car park. There will be a variety of traders in attendance with goods including knitwear, jewellery, candles and baked goods. Updates can be found on the Ardara Artisan Market Facebook and Instagram.
Ardara is also the place to be on bank holiday Monday with a Sets Céilí in the Heritage Centre at 8pm.
In Kilclooney, Portnoo an event is taking place to mark the 40th anniversary of publication of the book the Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
The book’s author Dr Brian Lacey will join a walk to Kilclooney Dolmen. The event is hosted by GAP Heritage Group and it takes place on Saturday at 4pm. The meeting point is the Dolmen Centre and booking is not necessary.
Huge crowds are expected at Relay For Life on the ATU campus in Letterkenny. The event is a major fundraiser for cancer services and research. Thousands of participants are expected to take part in Relay. There will be entertainment, talks and information stands with a focus on supporting cancer survivors, celebrating those involved in their care, and remembering those lost to the disease. Throughout the weekend, all the usual attractions will be open, and natural amenities such as beaches and forest parks are expected to be very busy.
People are being reminded to be aware of water safety and to take care on the roads throughout what will be an extremely busy weekend.
