The sun shone brightly on Donegal Pier as two local watersports clubs gathered for their annual blessing of the boats and social gathering.
Members of Donegal Dragons and their youth counterparts, Donegal Dolphins, joined together on Thursday evening for a social paddle on the bay.
Afterwards they were joined by local clergy Ven David Huss, Fr James Gillespie and Rev John Montgomery, as well as Cllr Tom Conaghan. Family and friends of the club members were also present.
Siobhán McNamara from Donegal Dragons welcomed every to the gathering, saying: “This evening is very much about gratitude for what we get from our club, for the support from our families and the wider community that allows us to do what we do, and for all our members for making the club so special and allowing us to support and help each other.”
Each member of the clergy contributed to the boat blessing ceremony, reflecting that while it was the boats that brought everyone together, it was the bonds of friendship and community that were at the heart of the club.
Refreshments and delicious home bakes were enjoyed by all.
