Suspended sentence for Letterkenny woman after spate of thefts

The woman appeared at Letterkenny District Court on charges of theft from various stores throughout the town

A Letterkenny woman has been given a suspended prison sentence after appearing in court charged with thefts from various premises in the town.

Julia Stokes, 38, was before a recent sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

The court was told that a number of theft charges from various stores throughout the town including Sports Direct, TK Maxx, Dealz and Iceland were being taken into consideration.

Stokes pleaded to the theft of €250 worth of goods for Boots Chemist on August 4, 2022.

Stokes, with an address at The Elms, Letterkenny, was represented by solicitor Rory O'Brien.

Judge Paul Kelly sentence Stokes to six months in prison but suspended the sentence for 18 months.

He ordered Stokes to abstain from all alcohol, to attend the addiction services, to attend the Women's Centre as well as the Mental Health Services and not to reoffend.

"If you are in breach of any of these conditions you will be brought back to court," Judge Kelly warned Stokes.
