Gaelscoil community invited to momentous ‘turning of the sod’

After what has been an absolute rollercoaster of a year to date for Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, the sod is finally being turned for the new building.

To mark the occasion, members of the Gaelscoil community past and present are invited to come along on June 9 at 1pm.

A spokesperson said: “It will be a huge historic day for our school which first opened its doors in 1999.

“We would like to invite (past) parents, pupils, teachers and the wider Gaelscoil community to be with us on this special day. You all supported us throughout and we are very grateful.”

Earlier this year, with a contractor appointed and ready to start on site, the school got news that it was one of 58 nationally for which funding had been pulled indefinitely.

The community pulled together and launched a campaign which saw funding restored and the green light given for construction to begin.

Beginning a new build is significant in any circumstances. For a school which has been in prefabs throughout its 24-year history, this is a truly momentous occasion.
