Gallery: Golden Jubilee celebrations for Fr Cathal O'Fearraí in Ballyshannon

It was a special night of celebrations at St Patrick's Church in Ballyshannon over the weekend, as Parish Priest Fr Cathal O'Fearraí celebrated his Golden Jubilee Mass with parishioners, friends and family on Saturday evening.

The weekend also coincided with the Feast of Corpus Christi "and for me it's fifty years", Fr O'Fearraí told his congregation.

"On this day (in 1973), in St Eunan's Cathedral, there were four of us ordained to the priesthood, two of us yet in priesthood, Fr Johnny Gallagher, who has retired as Parish Priest in Kilcar and living in Ardara is celebrating his Golden Jubilee today as well.

He welcomed people who had travelled to Ballyshannon for the special occasion, including some from New York, his family and some of his many friends he had met down the years, from throughout the country.

Concelebrants included Fr Eugene Barrett OFM, Fr James Gillespie and Fr Dermot Burke.

Fr O'Fearraí has also retired as the parish priest for Kilbarron and his replacement Fr Paddy Dunne P.P. is expected to take up his official duties the weekend after next in the Erne Town.

Our first photo shows Liam Thomas and Joe Gatins pictured at Fr Cathal O' Fearraí Golden Jubilee Mass celebrations of his priestly ordination half a century ago, on Saturday evening.
