Donegal's hot spell only dipped below 20C three times in June

As another warm, balmy and humid weekend descends upon Donegal, it has been confirmed the highest daily temperature at Met Éireann's meteorological station at Finner only dipped below 20C three times since since the end of May.

And two of those 'cooler' three days were 19.5C!

Yesterday, the hot June weather continued, with a 21.2C high recorded there with a night temperature of 15.9C.

However, it has been the humidity and thunderstorms of the past week, that have made things feel more uncomfortable, than earlier in the month, when it was just plain 'hot'.

That is confirmed by the news that the two hottest days of the month according to official Met Éireann stats were June 14 and June 15 when the highest Donegal temperatures were recorded at 26.4C and 26.3C respectively - both classified as heatwave breaking days.

Five days above 25C is classified as a full heatwave

The Malin Head weather station, because of its geography, does not get to consistently reach the same temperatures as Finner, but on June 14, it did manage to enter major ice pop weather territory with a blast of 24.8C

There were 20 days without a drop of rainfall from May but in the last week the rainfall recorded at the south Donegal station housed at Finner Camp has ranged from traces on Thursday past, to 12.8mm of rain last Saturday.

The highest official night time temperature was recorded on Sunday June 11 at 16.1C.

And to give an indication of just how warm that was, that night reading was higher that the highest daytime temperatures for 18 of the 31 days on May in Donegal.

And why some people are finding the challenges of night time sleep more of an effort that fending off the iced drinks and lemonade during the day.
